The closest thing I've come up with was the date code being the first two numbers of the serial number for older models and the last two numbers being the date code for later models. The rifle I was gifted only has a five digit serial number. The serial number on my first kit rifle from the 70's is 78 followed by a space and six numbers.

The CVA Wolf works great with 777 under a 100grs. For magnum loads the CVA Optima is better because of the longer barrel. The CVA Optima is just more gun you can tell by holding it. Both shoot great but if you want to shoot heavier loads go with the CVA Optima.Figured for the price of the gun i shouldnt have to spend another $40-$50 for open sights that offered more adjustment. +1000 but the sound effects on the TCARMS site are so much cooler and would make me decide on an Omega. Parts of the trigger assembly are plastic. The breech plug is no where near as good as the CVA BH209 plug and seals worse that either QRBP. Upper end CVAs have adjustable triggers too. Traditions offers nothing that competes well against a Optima V2 for under $300. You get less for your money. Well that settles it!

The break open latching on the Wolf is located on the front of the trigger guard. It tends to snag on things causing it to open while hunting. The Optima is on the back of the guard and haven’t had any problems whatsoever. I now own an Accura MR Nitride. It may possibly be the best hunting muzzleloader ever produced.

People hype the Bergara branded barrel but they all come out of the same factory in Bergara Spain. The Optima LR is a 28" which is plenty long. I bought a CVA Optima many years ago. I love it. I hear the Accura is great but have never shot one. I highly recommend Blackhorn 209 powder. Non corrosive, I can shoot many rounds between a full cleaning with no issues. I shoot 100-105 grains with a 240grain Barnes T-EZ over it and it's a great shooter.
