I've found that the front case gets removed from the rear case, and all the transmission internals stay mounted to the rear case. I've removed: Input bearing retainer. Snap ring from input shaft. Reverse light switch. That looks like the Getrag 260 (manual) tranny. You see that kinda pinkish sticker in the frist pic? You can't really read it anymore, but it says to use atf fluid. The light flywheel is not great with A/C which a must down here and I think the dual mass will make the engine feel a little smoother. The F1 clutch is also a little weak for the s52. Took off the pressure plate, then re-aligned the clutch and the tranny slid in like butter. Hooked up the shift linkage and driveshaft. Just for people's future information, I used a Getrag 260 on the M50 with the e36 Dual Mass Flywheel, e36 clutch kit and pressure plate, e36 throwout and pilot bearings. I had to use the e30 slave cylinder.

So then you might encounter the one-piece-metallic on late E30's then. I only have some theories why this actually happens (would like in the future to chop up a Getrag 260/5 and have a closer look).
