In response to Acadia Ray - My 2017 Acadia started showing the steering assist warning when starting the car, my check engine light was on, engine fans keep running on high and a/c stopped. I removed the negative battery connector, and reattached it as you suggested, and all is well!!! An easy remedy for this is turning the A/C to a mid setting, or even turn the heat on for a bit, melt the ice from the evaporator, then run the A/C above the lowest setting. Don't put the blame on the car.
