My old TC seems to shoot well with around 50 grains for targets at 50yards or less and I've used 80 for hunting and longer ranges.

I couldn't start a .495 down the barrel of my .50 kit gun with a hammer, a .490 is tight but doable. Others with a .50 Hawken load a .495 easily. I think thats the issue with mine a .445 and a patch I doubt could be seated hydraulically.The Hawkin is about 1.230. TC does sell a nice little adjustable peep sight, but it doesn't fold down and requires removal of that (IMO) ugly blob of a rear sight the gun comes with. Speaking of folding down, I have the Pedersoli sight mounted on a Pedersoli Tryon rifle along with a Lyman Globe front sight.
