Pyromancy takes most of the scaling from the flame, making pyromancy the best magic choice for melee builds. You will do bit less damage, but the difference is not that huge. I'd rather take the melee stats and attunement slots than the 100-200 damage more on my forbidden sun. You only need attunement for the attunement slots and +10 pyro flame.
