Yeah Rykard is pretty easy if you're built right, you don't even need the gimmick weapon against him. However, there is a boss even easier than both Rykard and the tutorial boss, and that's mimic tear. Take off all your equipment before starting the fight. It'll deal pitiful amounts of damage and have no health.

Cheesed. Yes. Using the first part of the serpent hunter L2 (not the follow up) will knock him out of any animation. Hitting him with any attack that isn’t the L2 will reset the stagger, so you can stunlock him in phase 2.

Rykard fights itself was so incredibly disappointing, because it could have been so much cooler. The visuals are AMAZING, so is the lore. But all they did was the same gimmick fight from the previous souls. And you are literally encouraged to cheese the fight, by spamming the weapon skill and stunlocking the boss.
