May 29, 2018 · I need to get my inspection done but my CEL was on with p0128 code. I replaced the thermostat, drove a couple days and the CEL went off. Continued to drive for a few more days. I still cannot get inspected (NY) because the vehicle is showing a P0128 as a "stored" code (using Foxwell NT201 OBD reader), even though the CEL is off.

Heater will cook a steak with a new one installed. Reset it and forget about it, ive done a few of these over the years, always a p0128 especially if you let it idle before you drive it.Follow up to the original question. Heads up that my 2012 JKU threw a P0128 and it was just because my coolant level had dropped below the min line. The colder weather was enough to trigger it. Once I added some coolant the code cleared and the CEL went away after about 3 drive cycles (about 3 days later).

Luckily when the t-stat fails, it fails open instead of closed, so at least the coolant keeps flowing. On my 2013 JKUR the t-stat isn't a separate item, and I am pretty sure that is the norm.
