The Golden model 39A started life as the Marlin model 1891, the first lever action rifle ever chambered in .22LR. The tubular magazine was changed to front-loading with the model 1892. The 1892 gave way to the takedown model 1897, which became the model 39 in 1921 and model 39A in 1937. The Golden model 39A Mountie was introduced in 1954.Easy fix. Break down the receiver, pull the bolt and the firing pin is in plain view laying in a groove along the top of the bolt. Remove the old broken firing pin, clean the groove and put in a bit of lube. Then, lay in a new firing pin and reassemble. And go shooting!!!! Marlin M39s are a fabulous .22 rifle.

Sorry that your Marlin 39A had a broken firing pin, that is unusual. Comparing the 39A to the 9422, they are just different. I have both and the 9422 is the clear winner as far as finish, and it is reliable and functioning is very smooth, and has great sights. The 39A has qualities of it's own.

The bolt face is recessed to fit the cartridge or case head, about 1/16 of an inch. The firing pin protrudes to a point level with the case surround or about 1/16 inch.
