A car service is not a big help because it drops you in about the same place the Gold Line does. Taxis, shuttles, etc are not allowed into the Arroyo Seco (where the stadium is).The shuttle is a straight shot to the front gates of the Rose Bowl. The Rose Bowl shuttle service is totally FREE.
